Wakefield On Water Boil Alert After E. Coli Contamination

A large portion of the Western Upper Peninsula is on a water boil alert after water testing discovered fecal bacteria E. Coli in the pre-treatment system.

The sample tested positive on Monday, April 24.

The warning applies to customers of Gogebic Range Water Authority, which applies to residents in Bessemer Township, Ironwood Township, and Wakefield Township, but the warning is centered in the city of Wakefield.

There is an investigation as to how extensive the bacteria has spread, and what the source was.

Residents are advised not to use the water for washing dishes, brushing teeth, drinking, making ice, or preparing food. Bottled water can be used instead of boiled water.
