L’Anse will receive a federal grant for nearly $1.3 million to support the development of a new industrial park on US-41. The offices of both Senator Carl Levin and Senator Debbie Stabenow say the money will come from the Economic Development Administration, which part of the U.S. Department of Commerce. A joint statement from both senators’ offices says that while Baraga County already has three publicly-owned industrial parks, two of them are already filled to capacity and the third lacks a rent-to-own option. The L’Anse park is expected to address demand in the area for industrial space and allow for job creation. The grant from the EDA will help pay for road construction and utility infrastructure construction. Senators Levin and Stabenow say 84 new jobs are expected to be created because of the industrial park, and $4 million in private-sector investment is expected to follow. Altogether, the park will cost $1,831,300.
