UPPCO Warns of Scam

Here is information we have received from UPPCO regarding a scam that has been reported in the Keweenaw:

UPPCO TruckUpper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) is urging its business customers to be aware of a current telephone scam occurring in the Houghton area in which a caller threatens service disconnection unless a call is made to a certain number as soon as possible in order to provide payment arrangements.

Anytime an UPPCO customer receives a suspicious call they should write down information the caller provides and also take note of the call date and time, phone number to call back and any information showing up on caller ID. In addition, UPPCO customers should not provide any private information, account or banking information.

Customers should contact UPPCO’s Customer Contact Center at 800-562- 7680 Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST anytime they receive suspicious calls. UPPCO representatives can confirm if a call was made to a customer and verify their account status. If a customer was behind on their bill they would have received a notice in the mail from UPPCO.
