Upper Peninsula Power Company is warning of another telephone scam in the area. Company officials say someone pretending to be an UPPCO employee is calling customers, saying that electrical service is about to be disconnected for non-payment. The caller then promises to keep the power running, if the customer provides a credit card or bank account number. Don’t do it. UPPCO encourages you to let them know about the call, along with the date and time you received it, and any information recorded by your caller ID. Call their 24-hour customer service number at 800-562-7680. A representative there can also check your account status.
