UPPCO Issues Phone Scam Warning to Customers

Marquette – Upper Peninsula Power Company is urging its customers to be aware of scammers who may call them posing as UPPCO representatives and threaten service disconnection unless financial or credit card information is provided within a short period of time due to allegedly being delinquent on their accounts.

Any UPPCO customer who receives such a suspicious call should write down any information the caller provides and also take note of the call date and time, phone number to call back and any information showing up on caller ID.  In addition, UPPCO customers should not provide any private information, account or banking information.

Customers should contact UPPCO’s 24-hour Customer Service number at 800-562-7680 if they receive suspicious calls. UPPCO can verify if a call was made to a customer and verify their account status.  If a customer was behind on their bill they would have received a notice in the mail from UPPCO.

Customers can also report any fraudulent calls to the Bureau of Consumer Protection at 800-422-7128. For more information, please visit www.uppco.com and click on Your Home/Safety and view Scam Warning under Quick Links.
