UPPCO Begins Work at the Victoria Hydroelectric Generation Powerhouse

UPPCO will begin construction work on the Victoria Hydroelectric generation powerhouse today. The electric utility company says that the Victoria powerhouse construction work starting today will last until mid-November.

During the summer and fall while work takes place UPPCO says that the site’s equipment will be taken offline to make necessary upgrades. While construction work occurs water from the Victoria Dam will be rerouted around the powerhouse, via an existing bypass. Also during this time, the North Country Trail will become inaccessible where the trail crosses the West Branch of the Ontonagon River. Fishing activities will also become unavailable immediately downstream of the powerhouse.

Vice President of Business Development and Communications says that UPPCO must make these upgrades to ensure the safe and reliable power generation of the Victoria Hydroelectric Powerhouse. At this time the company will limit recreational access to the location due to plans to reroute water and wishes to make the public aware of the temporary changes.
