The Bootjack Fire Department responded to a call at approximately 6:30 pm on Saturday, to a fire in Torch Lake Township. Fire Chief Dan Sarazin said that the fire started in a sauna on Rabbit Bay Road. 25 mile an hour winds ramped the fire’s flames, eventually spreading from the sauna to the home. To complicate matters further, crews needed to pump water into trucks from a mile down the road. And because of the high winds, firefighters cut multiple holes into the house’s roof to force water into the building.
The sauna was completely lost and there is extensive damage to the house. No one was in need of medical assistance. The crews finished work around 3 o’clock in the morning, before receiving a call back out to the property to dose two hot spots. The initial call on Saturday was aided by the Lake Linden, Hubbell, Calumet Township, and Dollar Bay Fire Departments, as well as Michigan State Police.
