UP Health System Portage Has New CEO

UP Health System Portage has a new Chief Executive Officer.

Ed Freysinger will assume CEO duties, effective March 30th.

Chief Nursing Officer Ryan Heinonen, has served as interim CEO, since December of 2019.

Gar Atchison, UP Health System Market President, said “Ed is a veteran healthcare executive with a strong track record of enhancing quality and patient safety, driving growth, developing and fostering culture and promoting community engagement. He is passionate about helping Portage find new ways to serve the community and advancing our mission of Making Communities Healthier. I look forward to everything the portage team will accomplish under his leadership.”

Freysinger has previously served as chief administrative officer at a medical center in Alaska, and CEO of a hospital in Oregon.

He holds a Master of Health Services Administration from U of M, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Eastern Michigan.

He said he is excited to join the UP Health System family, and call the Copper Country Home.

He also stated he looks forward to working alongside everyone in the UP Portage Health System, while seeking new ways to enhance the health and well being of the community.
