Michigan’s unemployment rate in July increased over the month by two-tenths of a percentage point to 7.7 percent. According to the Department of Technology, Management & Budget, total employment declined by 7,000 in July as the number of unemployed rose by 7,000, leaving the state’s labor force unchanged over the month. The state’s jobless rate last month was one and three-tenths percentage points below the state’s July 2013 rate of 9 percent. The national unemployment rate in July was 6.2 percent.
