Underage Piercing and Tattoos

Those under the age of 16 in Michigan would be prohibited from getting a tattoo or piercing without signed parental consent, under a measure before a State Senate committee. The proposed restriction also includes “branding,” however ear piercing would be exempt, under the proposal now before the Senate Health Policy Committee. State Senate Democrat Glen Anderson of Westland acknowledges that most tattoo parlors have long had a standard of not serving individuals under the age of 16 without parental consent, however he says since there’s no law against it, “bad actors” could not be stopped.
Also under the bill, tattoo and piercing parlors would be required to keep the signature of consent on file for one year.
