U.S. Senate to Make Another Go At Passing Federal Funding for Flint This Week

The U.S. Senate could make another go at approving federal funding to help Flint with its water crisis as soon as this week.

U.S. Senator Gary Peters, a Democrat, says the funding is rolled in to the energy bill. A vote on the latter is expected in a few days, which would then clear the way for a vote on the federal grant of $100 million to cover the cost of lead pipe replacement.

Peters says he backs Flint’s mayors push to remove all of the lead pipes in the city as soon as possible.

He says people in Flint can’t go on using bottled water forever.

A vote on the funding was held up a few weeks ago by a senator from Utah. Peters says he’s working through that objection and believes there is a path forward to get money to help Flint and other cities who may have high lead levels in their drinking water.
