A U.S. Senate committee has approved a Republican amendment to strip federal protection from gray wolves in three Great Lakes states – including Michigan – as well as Wyoming.
The bill would also prevent courts from intervening in those states.
The measure cleared the Senate Environment Committee Wednesday and now goes to the full U.S. Senate for a vote.
The sponsor of the amendment, a Wyoming senator, says the four states have what he calls workable plans to protect the wolf population and the animal should no longer be on the endangered species list.
