U.P. Wildfire Contained

An 80 acre wildfire in the Upper Peninsula, that began Thursday in Marquette County, is fully contained.

The fire started at a logging site meaning there was plenty of fuel for the fire.

The cause is under investigation.

John Pepin with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources says crews will spend the next couple of days putting out hot spots and mopping up.

That latter involves using bulldozers to plow their way from the outskirts of the fire in to the center.

There is still a high risk of fire in the UP and northern Michigan and that won’t change until the areas get a good deal of rain.
