A competition of the minds and math skills will be held tomorrow on the campus of Michigan Tech.
Students from third through 12th grade will be facing off in the U.P. Math Championships.
Coach of the Houghton High School and Middle School teams John Gershenson says the students have been working hard to prepare for this competition.
Students will take a 30 minute individual test with numerical answers, then a 30 minute team test where everyone works to solve 10 problems, then a 30 minute team GUTS round where each team races to complete as many problems as they can.
The top 10-20 individual students will get to compete in a championship round to decide the final individual places.
Everyone will be competing for prizes–including calculators, t-shirts and trophies.
High school students will be competing for at least 10 individual scholarships to attend Michigan Tech.
The guts round, the championship round, and the awards are open to the public, but the other rounds are not.
