U.P. Legislators Get Bills Signed by Governor

Governor Rick Snyder signed a number of bills into law Tuesday in Lansing, including a couple sponsored by U.P. legislators. A bill sponsored by State Representative Ed McBroom was signed which allows for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to issue shooting permits in areas where bears are damaging crops. Senator Tom Casperson’s sponsored bill was also signed into law and it prevents the Department of Environmental Quality from placing new rules on wood heaters, which he says would have been a slippery-slope issue if it was allowed.

The bill also prohibits the Department of Enviornmental Quality from enforcing federal regulations adopted after May 1st of 2014 that limit the emissions from such heaters. Senator Casperson will be a guest on this weekend’s edition of Copper Country Today.
