This Thursday, the Michigan Public Service Commission is inviting the public to attend a panel discussion and question-and-answer session on the U.P. energy future at the Energy Summit being held at Northern Michigan University. The panel will cover events that have taken place in the Upper Peninsula related to electric reliability, affordability and environmental protection, as well as discuss what the governor’s office and PSC are doing to protect electric customers. A decision by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to exempt Wisconsin customers from having to pay to keep the Presque Isle Power Plant open means that every electric customer in the U.P. will have to foot the entire bill. The Mid Continent Independent System Operators is forcing Wisconsin Electric to keep Presque Isle open because they fear that without it, the U.P. could go dark.
