Employment fell slightly across the Upper Peninsula last month… but the number of people in the workforce fell even more. That produced a drop in our unemployment rate from 10.3 to 9.1 percent. 500 fewer people were working in April than were working in March. 2,400 people left the workforce… either because they moved away, or just stopped searching. The U.P. and the Detroit area were the only regions in Michigan that lost jobs in April. The U.P.’s 9.1 percent unemployment rate remains the worst in the state.
