UPDATED–Two Vehicle Crash In Calumet

More information is now known concerning a two-vehicle crash in Calumet on Thursday.

Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post say they received several 911 calls from motorists around 2:25 in the afternoon that a reckless driver in excess of 80 mph was running cars off the road on M-26 near Green Acres Rd.

Several more 911 calls reported the car traveling at a high rate of speed through Houghton and Hancock.

At approximately 2:37pm, the car was reported to be northbound on US-41 near Boston Rd. Troopers heading southbound spotted the car on US-41 near the State Police post about 2:39pm and clocked the car on radar traveling in excess of 90mph.

Troopers then turned around in attempt to catch the vehicle. Before troopers could catch up to the car, it had crashed into a pickup truck on US-41 near Agent St. in Calumet.

The driver, a 27-year-old Houghton man, excited the car under his own power and was taken into custody.

He was transported to Aspirus Hospital in Laurium and later transferred to U.P. Health System—Marquette for further evaluation of his injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 41-year-old Calumet man, did not receive serious injuries and sought his own medical treatment.

Charges are pending further investigation.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Laurium Police Department, Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Department, Calumet Township Fire Department, Mercy Ambulance and Trails Creek Towing.
