Two-Vehicle Accident In Keweenaw County

Sixteen people escaped serious injury when a car blew a stop sign in Keweenaw County and pulled out in front of a van.

Deputies from the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office were called out to the accident at the intersection of US-41 and M-26 just before 10:00 Sunday night.

Officers say a passenger car driven by a 54-year-old Vermont man was traveling on M-26 and failed to stop at the stop sign at US-41.

He pulled out into the path of an oncoming van traveling west on US-41.

The van was driven by a 39-year-old Chassell resident with eleven passengers on board.

The van was also towing a camper trailer.

After the collision, the van and the camper trailer overturned on their side and the passenger car was sent into the guardrail.

All 12 people in the van, as well as four people in the passenger car, escaped with only minor scrapes and cuts.

Everyone refused medical treatment at the scene.

The driver of the car was cited for Failing to Yield.

The accident remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were Allouez Township Fire and First Responders, Trails Creek Towing, and Superior Towing.
