Two U.S. Senators Want to Remove Gray Wolf Protections

A pair of U.S. Senators are taking another stab at stripping federal protections from gray wolves.

The senators, from Wyoming and Wisconsin, introduced legislation this week to remove the gray wolf from the endangered species list.

The bill would also prohibit courts from stepping in to change the federal status of the animal.

The Department of the Interior issued an order in 2011 and 2012 that dropped wolves here in Michigan and in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Wyoming from the endangered species list.

But a judge put them back on the list in 2014.

Animal protection advocates have fought for over a decade to keep the wolves on the endangered species list noting their future is uncertain.

Similar legislation was introduced earlier this year in the U.S. House.
