Two New Ordinances in Houghton

The City of Houghton has two new ordinances that will be implemented just in time for the winter season. The first gives leniency to the police department with those who park overnight. The old ordinance says cars should be towed immediately but now, police can ticket and give warnings before deciding to tow any vehicle. The second ordinance makes snow removal that creates a traffic hazard a punishable offense. City Manager Eric Waara says the city also passed a resolution that gives their support on an MTU grant application regarding work that will be done on the trails by the Great Lake Research Center.

The grant is being given through the state of Michigan.
