Two Drown In Lake Superior Saturday

Two people are dead after drowning in Lake Superior Saturday afternoon.

Just after 3:00 p.m., the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of three people who were struggling in the water at Little Presque Isle.

Police say two women, both 22-years-old, went into the water with the intention of going to a nearby rock, when one of the women was unable to make it.

The other woman went back into the water to try and help as did a nearby 24-year-old man.

All three of them were unable to make it back to the shore.

Two bystanders on the beach put on life jackets, entered the water and were able to save one of the women.

The bodies of the other woman and the man who tried to help them were recovered.

Names of the victims have not been released at this time.
