Trump, Sanders Win Michigan Presidential Primaries

A record number of people headed to the polls to vote in Michigan’s presidential primary Tuesday.

More than 2.4 million people turned out, shattering a record of 1.9 million people set in 1972.

The turnout was so high in some parts of the state that county clerks say they ran out of ballots.

Voters in some of those precincts waited in line for an hour to vote while more ballots were printed.

Donald TrumpRepublican Donald Trump took home a win and a share of Michigan’s delegates after a presidential primary victory Tuesday.

Trump, speaking from Jupiter, Florida, thanked voters for heading out to the polls in record numbers and says he’s now setting his sights on the likes of Florida, Illinois and Ohio, which have primaries next week.

Texas Senator Ted Cruz finished second in Michigan’s presidential primary after leapfrogging Ohio Governor John Kasich late in the night.

Kasich spent much of the evening in second place and even delivered what sounded like a victory speech early in the evening, thanking voters for a second place finish in Michigan.

Kasich wound up finishing third while Florida Senator Marco Rubio finished a distant fourth.

Trump, Cruz and Kasich will all get a share of Michigan’s 59 Republican delegates.

Sanders, BernieVermont Senator Bernie Sanders was the winner in Tuesday’s Michigan Democratic presidential primary election.

Several polls had former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with the advantage heading into the election, but Sanders was able to close the gap and squeeze out a narrow win.

Sanders says the result means his campaign and the political revolution he’s been talking about is strong in every part of the nation.

In Clinton’s primary election night speech, delivered as results began coming in, she said she was proud of the campaigns she and Sanders were running.

Clinton then urged her supporters to do everything they can to make their voice heard in upcoming contests in Ohio, Florida, Illinois, Missouri and North Carolina.

Michigan’s Secretary of State reported record voter turnout for the primary.

Leading up to the election Sanders stressed that increased voter turnout would be key to his success.
