A Wisconsin State Trooper and a suspected bank robber are dead after they exchanged gun fire in the pursuit of the suspect.
The robbery happened just after 1:30 Tuesday afternoon. Deputies from the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office say that reports indicated the lone male entered the State Bank of Florence in the village of Wausaukee, where he displayed and fired one round from a handgun and proceeded to rob the bank of cash. He then left in a stolen bank employee’s vehicle.
The Sheriff’s Office received another call about an hour later regarding a male victim found near a pickup truck that was still running east of the village.
Officers believed the victim was in his sixties, and he was found to be deceased. The stolen bank employee’s vehicle was located after searching the scene, and officers concluded that the suspect had fled in another vehicle and may have encountered the victim and shot him.
The suspect and vehicle were later spotted in Fond du Lac by a Wisconsin State Patrol trooper. The suspect allegedly exchanged gun fire with the trooper. Both were killed in the exchange.
The names of the Trooper and suspect have not been released at this time.
