Governor Rick Snyder announced Monday the appointment of former bankruptcy Judge Steven Rhodes as transition manager of Detroit Public Schools.
Rhodes won’t carry the title emergency manager, however, a spokesman for the governor says Rhodes will have the role of EM under the state’s laws.
Current DPS EM, Darnell Early, told the governor last month that he would be leaving the position because he completed his goals ahead of time.
Rhodes will likely be the one to oversee reforms to the school district currently being debated in the state legislature.
The House and Senate are each working on competing plans to get DPS out of debt. Both would cost $715 million.
