This past year was a good year for the Mackinac Bridge.
Traffic during each of the last 13 months was better than the same month in the previous year.
A month by month increase is unusual, even in a good year, according to Bob Sweeney, executive secretary of the Mackinac Bridge Authority.
Sweeney believes the improving economy combined with increased Pure Michigan and other promotions are the reasons for the improved traffic.
Lower fuel prices may have also played a role, according to Sweeney.
Overall, traffic increased 7.4 percent from 2014 to 2015.
He stops short of saying the increase is a long term trend, but notes that the numbers are very encouraging.
During 2015, 3.9 million vehicles crossed the bridge, compared to 3.6 million which crossed in 2014.
