Spencer Torkelson blasted two home runs, as the Tigers defeated the Rangers 8-5 yesterday. His solo shot in the fifth gave Detroit a brief 3-2 lead. His three-run dinger in the eighth provided the eventual winning margin. Reese Olson started for Detroit, but left in the second inning after taking a batted ball off his left knee. X-rays showed no structural damage, but he has a significant bruise, and is considered day-to-day.
After splitting their four-game set with Texas, the Tigers visit the Rockies tonight. Michael Lorenzen will pitch against Austin Gomber. Coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Struggling Detroit starter Joey Wentz has been sent down to Toledo. Zach Logue has been brought up, and will be used out of the bullpen. With Matthew Boyd out for the season because of Tommy John surgery, that leaves two holes in the Tigers’ starting rotation. Manager A.J. Hinch hopes those slots will be filled next week, if Eduardo Rodriguez and Tarik Skubal can return from the injured list.
The Tigers also reported that outfielders Riley Greene and Akil Baddoo are heading to the Mud Hens for rehab assignments. Baddoo could be ready to take the field this weekend, and Greene early next week.
The Brewers came from behind to edge the Mets 3-2 last evening. Adrian Houser gave up a pair of solo home runs in the third inning, but completed six frames, and earned the win. Victor Caratini’s two-run homer tied the game in the top of the sixth. Brian Anderson’s sacrifice fly drove home the game-winner in the top of the seventh.
The Brewers visit the Pirates tonight. Freddy Peralta will start against Osvaldo Bido.
Milwaukee has demoted infielder Luis Urías to Nashville. Infielder Brice Turang has been recalled.

The Red Wings were busy on the second day of the NHL Draft yesterday. First, Detroit obtained forwards Kailer Yamamoto and Klim Kostin from Edmonton in exchange for future consideration. Both were salary cap victims with the Oilers.
With three picks in the second round, Detroit claimed goaltender Trey Augustine and defenseman Brady Cleveland from the National Development Team, and defenseman Andrew Gibson from the Soo Greyhounds in the Ontario Hockey League. Augustine is committed to play at Michigan State this season. They added Swedish wing Noah Dower Nilsson in the third round, and two more defensemen, two forwards and another goaltender over the final five rounds.
