Tool Will Help Law Enforcement Officers Communicate With Deaf People

Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley and The Michigan Department of Civil Rights rolling out a new communication tool that will make it easier to communicate with some people.

It’s a card that the officer uses to facilitate safe communication between the law enforcement officer and an individual who is deaf or hard of hearing.

Vicki Levengood is with the state Department of Civil Rights.  She says the tool is a win-win for both Law Enforcement officers and people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

The tool is effective for law enforcement as well.  They can be more at ease knowing they are dealing with someone who just needs a little extra explanation.
