Tigers Snap Losing Streak
The Tigers snapped their four game losing streak with an 8-4 victory over the Pirates last night. Buck Farmer gave up four runs over five innings in his major league debut. He left with the Tigers trailing 4-1, but that’s when the Detroit offense woke up. The Tigers scored three runs in the fifth… one on a homer by Alex Avila. They took the lead in the sixth on a homer by Nick Castellanos… then added three insurance runs in the seventh. Blaine Hardy earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief.

The Tigers wrap up that series against the Pirates this afternoon. Max Scherzer will start against Francisco Liriano. Hear the first pitch at 1:08 on FM 99.3 and AM 1400, WCCY.

The Royals also won, so the Tigers remain a half-game back in the American League Central Division.

To make room for Farmer on the roster, reliever Kevin Whelan was sent down to Toledo. Detroit also had to add Farmer to the 40-man roster. To do that, they designated Double-A Erie catcher Ramon Cabrera for assignment. He was claimed off waivers by the Pirates.

Brewers Lose Game, Lohse
The Brewers fell to the Cubs 4-2, but may have lost more than just a game. Starting pitcher Kyle Lohse injured his ankle while batting in the third inning. He returned to the mound, but gave up a couple of home runs, and then left the game. Lohse originally hurt the ankle nearly two weeks ago. Team officials continue to think the injury is minor, but the jury is out as to whether he’ll be able to make his next start.

The Brewers conclude that set against the Cubs in Chicago this afternoon. Mike Fiers will start against Edwin Jackson.

Pittsburgh lost, and Saint Louis won… so the Brewers’ lead in the National League Central Division is a game-and-a-half over the Pirates, and two games over the Cardinals.
