MLB – Tigers Shut Out
Justin Verlander’s tough luck continued last night, as the Detroit Tigers lost to the Texas Rangers 2-0. Verlander gave up two runs on four hits over seven innings. He struck out eight. The Tigers had chances to score. Miguel Cabrera slid across home plate in the fourth inning, but the initial “safe” call was overturned on a replay. Detroit batters hit into three double plays. Game details are here.

The Tigers host the Rangers again tonight. Newly-acquired Randy Wolf will start against his former Milwaukee Brewers teammate, Yovani Gallardo. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

To make room for Wolf, Detroit sent reliever Jose Valdez back to Toledo. The Tigers will also need to remove someone from their 40-man roster to accommodate Wolf.

Santana

Jonathan Lucroy had three hits, as the Milwaukee Brewers blew past the Washington Nationals 10-3 last night. Domingo Santana homered. Jimmy Nelson got the win, pitching into the sixth, and giving up two runs. Kyle Lohse pitched the final three innings, allowing one run, and earning a save. The win moved the Brewers a half-game ahead of the Cincinnati Reds, and out of last place in the National League Central for the first time this season. Game details are here.

The Brewers continue that set at Washington tonight. Taylor Jungmann will pitch against Joe Ross.

Santana was brought up from Colorado Springs earlier in the day to make his Brewers’ debut. He was one of the prospects obtained in the Mike Fiers deal. Fiers threw a no-hitter for the Astros last night.

After last night’s contest, Milwaukee sent reliever Neal Cotts struck to the Twins for a player to be named, or cash considerations. They filled his spot with reliever Cesar Jimenez, whom they claimed off waivers from the Phillies.
