Tigers Blank Guardians – Friday Sports Wrap

Twilight League

In Copper Country Twilight League baseball action last evening…
• Craig Heinonen Coldwell Banker and REL-Mohawk Technology split their doubleheader, with Coldwell Banker taking the first game 11-7, and REL claiming the nightcap 13-1.
• Garnet Garage and Northern Driveline split their twin bill, with Garnet winning the opener 7-4, and Northern taking the nightcap 7-6.

MLB

Javier Báez’ three-run homer in the second inning provided all the scoring in the game, as the Tigers blanked the Guardians 3-0 yesterday. On a bullpen day, six Detroit relievers limited Cleveland to just four hits.

The Tigers host the Twins tonight. Keider Montero will pitch against Pablo López. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers had yesterday off, and host the Marlins tonight. Freddy Peralta will start against Trevor Rogers.

Christian Yelich had his balky back examined by a specialist yesterday. He’s hoping rest will enable him to return to the lineup, but surgery could be required. That would likely end his season.

The Brewers have also reportedly inked a deal with a player with a familiar name. Jadyn Fielder is the oldest son of former Brewer and Tiger Prince Fielder. Jadyn is 19, and was not claimed in the recent MLB draft. He plays second and third base. Jadyn’s grandfather, Cecil, also played for the Tigers.

NBA

Former Piston Killian Hayes has signed a one-year deal with the Nets. Hayes was the seventh pick in the 2020 draft, but never played at the level that was expected. Detroit waived him late last winter.
