Thin Ice Near Sturgeon River

UPPCOUPPCO is warning residents near the Sturgeon River that all winter recreational activities on the ice near hydroelectric facilities are to be avoided due to thin ice. This is because of continually changing water flows beneath the ice that forms. This is part of normal hydro dam operations. UPPCO also operates dams and storage reservoirs in Dead River, Escanaba and Ontonagon Rivers.
