The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department and Salvation Army in Hancock Partner to Welcome The Connection Center to the Community

The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department and the Salvation Army will partner to start a new center focused on addressing substance abuse in the region. The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department announced yesterday the grand opening of the Connection Center at the Salvation Army Building in Hancock.

The center will act as a welcoming space for people with substance use disorder and their families to socialize, learn, and grow. The health department and the Salvation Army will host a grand opening ceremony next week at the Connection Center, inviting the community to explore the space during an open house. At the family-friendly event, an informational and inspirational presentation from Dr. Kirk Klemme, Kathy Praszek, and Peer Recovery Coaches from Healthy Connections will share more about the Connection Center’s purpose and mission. During the presentation, each will share a little about their professional and personal experience working with addiction and plan to address questions from the community.

The center has been funded in part by the State Opioid Response through Northcare Network and partnership with the Salvation Army. Health Officer Kate Beer says that the department is excited about the opportunity to address an issue that can impact individuals, family units, friends, and entire communities. Adding that the complicated issue of deconstructing alcohol and drug addiction’s sources requires a collaborative effort from each party involved.

The Connection Center open house and grand opening will take place at 408 Ravine Street in Hancock on June 7th from 4 to 7 pm. Find more information about The Connection Center here.
