For the 2015-2016 academic year, the PHFoundation implemented a scholarship program with Finlandia University, Gogebic Community College, Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, and Michigan Technological University for local students studying the health sciences. The PHFoundation is pleased to recognize and congratulate the following recipients and wish them much continued success.
From Finlandia University:
- Chloe Ashley, a third-year nursing student from Ontonagon.
- Patrice Lompre, a first-year nursing student from South Range.
- Rebecca Steffensen, a third-year physical therapy assistant student from Ontonagon.
From Gogebic Community College:
- Gabriel Mackey, a first-year nursing student from Baraga.
- Ashely Moore, a first-year medical assistant student from Ontonagon.
- Vanessa Mueller, a first-year nursing student from Calumet.
- Jason Newman, a first-year medical assistant student from Calumet.
From Michigan State University College of Human Medicine:
- Caitlin Polakowski, a first-year medical student from Houghton.
- A second student is currently being selected.
From Michigan Tech University:
- Kelly Larson, a third-year sports and fitness management student from L’Anse.
- Braden Peterson, a third-year medical laboratory science student from Hancock.
- Katie Schjoth, a third-year medical laboratory science student from Baraga.
- Dylan Turpeinen, a fourth-year chemical engineering student from Houghton.
The PHFoundation is committed to providing financial support to local students pursuing degrees in the vast healthcare field.
“Supporting students in their studies is a key step toward developing a workforce that has the skills and capacity to meet the health needs of the community,” said Hilary Anderson, Grants Management Coordinator at the Portage Health Foundation.
The PHFoundation also desires that these funds have a positive impact on students as they seek to become healthcare professionals and agents of positive and healthy change.
