As Michigan’s firearm deer season comes to a close, hunters may have noticed something different this year: more women hunting.
A report released in October shows that while the number of people hunting nationwide is down, the number of female hunters in Michigan is up.
That’s not surprising to Michigan Department of Natural Resources Director Keith Creagh.
He says there are better firearm safety training courses nowadays which makes hunting more approachable.
He also says the DNR has tried to position the sport as a family friendly affair.
Creigh also credits the DNR’s “Becoming an Outdoors Woman” program with boosting the number of female hunters in the state.
