The Baraga County Chamber of Commerce is set to host its fifth annual guided ATV waterfall tour around Skanee and Arvon Township on September 28.

With stops at 10 waterfalls, the highest natural point in Michigan, Mt. Arvon, the historic Rock Cut, and views from backcountry trails normally closed to the public, there is a wide variety of experiences on this all-day tour.
Now in its fifth year, the tour began during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, when social distancing orders were in effect. The Chamber started the tour to support local businesses during that time and to offer people a unique outdoor experience.
What the Chamber did not anticipate, explained Burt Mason, a Chamber board member, was how popular the tour would become.
In 2020, the tour started with 25 all-terrain vehicles. The following year, 100 people from other states traveled to participate.
“80% of the people that join us have been coming from 500 miles away, so it’s a boost for the local economy,” said Mason.
The tour begins at the Roland Lake Gravel Pit, where parking and portable bathrooms are available. There is an optional pasty lunch for purchase at the tour’s midpoint, Mt. Arvon.
This event is made possible thanks to The Nature Conservancy and Lyme Great Lakes Timberlands.
