Entrepreneurs in the technology industry are on the rise in Michigan. According to report from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the number of tech start-up companies have more than tripled over the past four years. The 2014 Metrics Report indicated that 248 new tech companies were created in Michigan last year, and an average of 240 new tech companies have been created each of the last three years bringing in over 1,000 new tech jobs a year. The MEDC says also in 2014, private investment in new tech companies in the state was $710 million, meaning for every dollar the Strategic Fund spent on tech entrepreneurship, small tech companies raised $35 from the private sector and federal contracts.
