Youth Hockey
The Team Michigan Seniors won the National Invitational High School Hockey Tournament in Minnesota yesterday, defeating North Dakota 5-2 in the title match. Team Michigan was led by three Houghton High School standouts – Gab Carlson had two goals and an assist, Landon Stevens had one goal and an assist, and Camden Markham scored once.
The Michigan Juniors fell to the Wisconsin Seniors 6-3 in their final game yesterday. Houghton’s Mikey Maillette had an assist.

Adam Frazier raced home on Mason Englert’s wild pitch in the bottom of the 10th inning, as the Tigers lost 2-1 to the Orioles yesterday. The late run wasted a gem of a start by Eduardo Rodriguez, who gave up just one hit over seven shutout innings, and struck out six. Spencer Torkelson drove home Matt Vierling with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning for Detroit’s only run.
The Tigers visit the Brewers tonight. Matthew Boyd will start against Colin Rea. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers dropped a 12-5 decision to the Red Sox yesterday. Boston broke open a close game with nine runs in the eighth inning. Masataka Yoshida hit two home runs in that inning, including a grand slam. Brian Anderson homered for Milwaukee.
