Governor Rick Snyder Thursday signed legislation that he says strengthens and clarifies the evaluation of teachers statewide.
It requires school districts to put in place performance evaluation systems for all teachers and administrators that take into account student growth and assessment data.
The new law calls for 40 percent of annual evaluations be based on student academic growth starting in the 2018-19 school year.
Districts can create their own evaluation tools, but they have to be used in schools district-wide.
