Legislation introduced in the Michigan House aims to give parents, outdoor enthusiasts and those who like to buy things that are made in Michigan a break on paying state sales tax.
State Representative Lee Chatfield, R-Levering, is sponsoring the bill, which would eliminate the sales tax for a few days around back to school time.
School supplies, clothes and some computer equipment would be exempt from the state sales tax over Labor Day Weekend.
Also under the bill you wouldn’t have to pay state sales tax during the first weekend of summer on products made in Michigan and you could skip paying state sales tax on hunting or camping gear the first weekend in November.
The legislation awaits a hearing in a House committee.
