Targeted Learning Approach Highlighted At Houghton-Portage Twp School Board Meeting

Houghton-Portage Township School Board Meeting 10-19-15

A targeted learning approach making progress and this year’s enrollment projections were topics discussed at the recent Houghton-Portage Township School Board meeting.

The elementary Multi-Tier System of Supports team, or MTSS, presented their results of the focus groups so far.

The system consists of a reading assessment and a behavioral observation.

These tests and observations help to strengthen curriculum in the elementary school and give students the targeted learning help they need.

The data so far shows a great improvement in benchmark assessment scores.

Enrollment projections in the school district showed a significant 3 year growth period from 2012-2014.

This year, however, a slight decrease in enrollment.

Superintendent, Doreen Klingbeil is looking into a data projection consultant to look further into these numbers.
