Superior Search and Rescue Adds Drone

Superior Search and Rescue has added a new tool to help find missing people in the region.

A drone – officially an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle – is now up and running.

The UAV was purchased with a $4,000 grant from the Portage Health Foundation.

Among the tools it carries are a spotlight, and a loudspeaker that can be heard 1,500 feet away. It has a visual and a thermal imaging camera, so it can be used both day and night.

Andrew Erickson will serve as chief pilot, and Darian Reed as the coordinator.
