A car crash Sunday morning has hospitalized two people. First responders were called to a three-vehicle mishap on M-26 near Canal Road around 10:30. Officers discovered that a car driven by 52-year-old Darcy Way of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, had veered across the centerline. His vehicle sideswiped a car driven by 76-year-old Linda Belote of Hancock. Way’s car then crashed head-on into a vehicle driven by 60-year-old Sharon Waarala of Laurium. Michigan State Police troopers tell us that Way apparently suffered a medical emergency while driving, which caused him to lose control. He’s been airlifted to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. Waarala was admitted to UP Health System Portage with non-life-threatening injuries. Belote was treated at UP Health System Portage and released.
