Tours of two of the U.P.’s prominent mining operations are once again being offered this summer. A guided tour of a working iron ore mine and processing plant in Marquette County will be available as Cliffs Natural Resources will open its facilities to visitors. The tour allow visitors to view mining operations at Cliffs’ Empire Mine and ore processing at the Tilden Mine concentrator and pelletizing plant. The 3-hour tours will begin on Tuesday, June 10th and run until Saturday, August 23rd. The Eagle Mine is also offering tours to the public starting Friday. The tour will focus on the surface facilities that support the nickel-copper mine in Northern Marquette County. The Eagle Mine tour will last about 5 hours and all tours will depart from and return to the Eagle Mine Information Center in downtown Marquette.
