Stuffed Blue Goose Helps Raise Hunger Awareness

A Blue Goose is what the State Police call their patrol cars, and they’re stuffing it full of food donations.

The Michigan State Police Calumet Post partnered with Econo foods for this event to raise hunger awareness and donate to local food pantries.

Post Commander at the Michigan State Police Calumet Post, Randy Danison said, “This event is sponsored through the State of Michigan, it’s called the Michigan Harvest Gathering. It’s been going on, this year’s the 25th year. This is the first year here at the Calumet State Police Post that we’ve done this in cooperation with Econo Foods. And we’re here today trying to gather as much as we can to stuff a Blue Goose, which is what we call our patrol cars.”

Donating is easy, shoppers simply pick up a pre-picked bag of groceries and pay for them at checkout.

The bags are purchased for five dollars, but each bag holds ten dollars worth of food.

Danison says,“Econo Foods is donating a 1 to 1 match, so they’ve donated $5 per bag. We like to fill as many patrol cars as we can; we have two full size Tahoes sitting outside that we’d like to fill today.”

The Michigan Harvest Gathering campaign promotes events across the entire state and has raised over 54 million meals to help those in need.
