Today marks a special anniversary for a renowned local broadcaster. It was 50 years ago this afternoon that Dick Storm did his first radio show in the Copper Country. Dick grew up in Toivola, but had moved away to attend a broadcast school in Wisconsin. He worked at a station in Platteville for more than a year-and-a-half before returning home. His first local radio program was the Afternoon Polka Party on September 2, 1964, on WMPL. Dick went on to become a co-owner of this radio station for many years, and is a member of the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame. He continues to host a weekend country oldies program on WCUP. Congratulations to Dick Storm for 50 years of extraordinary broadcast service to listeners on the Keweenaw Peninsula.
