Stop the Roar of Hunger Nearly Halfway to Goal

A fundraising campaign to alleviate hunger in the Copper Country is off to a great start.

The Portage Health Foundation launched their Stop the Roar of Hunger campaign on December 1st, which was #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving.

Their goal is to raise at least $50,000 that will fund specific calls for proposals to address hunger and nutrition within Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw and Ontonagon Counties.

So far, they have raised nearly $21,000.

“Hunger is not a black and white issue,” said Chelsea Goodreau, Fund Development Assistant with the Portage Health Foundation. “The more we dig into this issue, the more we are realizing that food insecurity and lack of nutrition is a community health issue that is effecting everyone. By doing the #StoptheRoarofHunger campaign our goal is to raise awareness and bring our community together.” Goodreau continued.

The online donations will be combined with the proceeds of the Portage Health Foundation’s Spring Gala which is being held on May 21, 2016.
