The state is urging people in Michigan to go out and get a flu shot.
Doctor Eden Wells of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says they’ve already confirmed four cases of influenza since October 4th, the beginning of the flu season.
She says it takes two weeks for the flu shot to take effect so now is the time to get vaccinated to protect yourself and your family members.
Last year, the flu vaccine didn’t protect against the prevalent strain of flu, but Wells says that’s not the case so far this year.
She says there appears to be good coverage for the flu strains being seen around the country.
Wells says it’s especially important for young children, the elderly and pregnant woman to get the flu vaccine.
