State Urging Caution With Door-to-Door Meat Sales

The state is offering Michigan consumers some tips when buying meat from door-to-door salesman.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development wants consumers to be cautious about door-to-door meat sales.

Department spokeswoman, Jennifer Holton, says door-to-door sales can provide an opportunity for some bad actors, so it’s important to be an informed buyer to avoid being taken advantage of.

Holton says make sure you know what you’re buying, who you’re buying from, never purchase meat from an unrefrigerated vehicle or trunk of a car, and check the label for the USDA seal of inspection.

She also says those who sell meat door-to-door should have a MDARD issued decal displayed on each side of their vehicle.
