State Senator Backing Bill to Speed Up Autism Diagnoses and Treatment

A state lawmaker is pushing a bill aimed at getting autism patients diagnosed and treated more quickly.

State Senator Margaret O’Brien says the problem is that some insurers will only pay certain medical centers to diagnose autism and some of those places have a two year waiting list.

She says it’s an unnecessary barrier.

Her bill that would require insurers pay any facility that meets the gold standard for diagnosing autism.

She says the sooner autism is treated, the better the outcomes and at a lower cost to taxpayers.
